Principal’s Report

Terrific Term Two

I am so proud to have the honour of leading our school. Our student behaviour and academic results are excellent, our staff are dedicated, supportive and hardworking, our P&C is certainly progressive and continues to implement effective and positive changes that benefit all and our parent and local community are incredibly supportive.

It is exciting to look back on the term and celebrate some of the numerous events that have taken place. These include school photos, ANZAC Day services, Mother’s Day Stalls, NAPLAN, School Review, Maleny Show, TREES Project, Under 8’s Day, AEDC, Clarity-hosting visting schools, Interschool Sport, Sports Days, Book Fair, Knitfest, Bunnings BBQ, just to name a few events we have been involved in this term. We are already excited to commence Term Three but first let’s all complete this week and enjoy a well earned holiday.

Please note the Flexischools ordering system function for Uniform items will cease operating on Thursday 24th June at 5pm and will be replaced with the P&C online Store please see the link below. Flexischool ordering is now only available for Tuckshop items.

Under 8’s Day “Children Celebrating Outdoor Play and Learning”.

What a fantastic day this was last Wednesday. I received many comments that it was one of our best. Thank you to all parents that attended and participated in activities with their children, this ensured that the day ran smoothly and all children could freely engage in a variety of learning activities. A big thank you to our Rural and local Fire Brigades who were the star attractions of the day. The planning and preparation by all staff involved and overall coordination from Mandy Bauer was excellent and much appreciated.

Semester One School Reports

Student reports for Semester One are currently being prepared by teachers and will be distributed this week. Remember a ‘C’ rating means your child is achieving the outcomes expected at their year level. The biggest percentage of students will achieve this result. Please read the standards on the front of your child’s report card for a better understanding of what a specific grade means. Please don’t hesitate to clarify any questions you may have with your child’s teacher.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent teacher Interviews (Yrs P-6) will be held in week 3 of next Term. If you need to meet earlier please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting. Parents will be sent an email shortly describing the Online Booking tool we use to coordinate our interviews. If you do not have internet access please call the office or see your child’s classroom teacher to assist you make this booking.

Lost Property

Thank you to all students and families for naming and looking after your belongings.

Lost property is checked weekly and named items are returned to their owners. There are quite a few items remaining. If these items are not collected by the end of the term they will be washed/cleaned and donated to local charities.

This term Miss Mandy has noticed a lot of brand-new jumpers in lost property with NO NAME! Parents and children are encouraged to check the lost property for lost articles on a regular basis. Lost property is located under the steps in the old foyer.

With the Athletics Carnivals this week it will be very important to name all belongings, especially hats and jumpers!

Contact Details – Do we have your most up to date contact details?

There are times when we may need to contact parents and carers. Do we have your most up to date contact details? If not, please contact the school on 5499 8333 so we can update our records. These details include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details. Please remember to contact the school if any of these details change.

SWPBL (School Wide Positive Behaviour for Learning)

We are half way there, well done everyone.

It’s rocket time!!!

Our new smart goal for the rest of Term 2 is “Be Your Best Self”. This goal focusses on positive behaviour, both inside and outside the classroom. Each time a student is ‘caught’ being their best self, they get to put a ball in their class bucket. We expect to have the rocket filled halfway with balls by our next assembly. Of course, once the rocket is full, the whole school wins 20 minutes extra play time!

Be Your Best Self

This means:

  • I do my best and never give up.
  • I show commitment, pride and a positive attitude.
  • I am patient and willing to work hard.
  • I make sure to learn from my mistakes and choices.
  • I am a supportive class and school member.
  • I take responsibility of my actions and I am proud of my actions.
  • I treat myself and others with respect.
  • I am a role model to others.
  • I have a positive mindset.

Prep A & Prep B

Our Material World

The Preps enjoyed planning, designing and creating their garden ornaments. There was plenty of discussion as to which materials they should choose and what they could use to join different materials. The garden ornaments needed to withstand the Maleny weather. Our Prep entrance and garden looks and sounds delightful with all our ornaments chiming and sparkling in the wind and sun. The Preppies are looking forward to bringing these home this week and finding a special place for them in their own gardens.

Wishing all of our lovely Prep families a safe and relaxing break.

Mandy Bauer (Prep A) & Lindy Hicks (Prep B)

Year 2A & 2B

What a great end to the term!

A huge thank you goes to all students who participated in our Yummy Design and Technology activity making a Healthy Fruit Salad. Also, to students and family members who made some amazing and well-designed Recycled Toys for our Science project.

We are well on our way to creating some very persuasive texts about our Big Bad Shark and Big Bad Wolf. We are looking forward to Junior Sports Day coming up. A busy term and it certainly has flown by, we also have welcomed some new students this term. Have a safe and well rested break

Year 3A & 3B

Last News from 3A & 3B for term 2

We are nearly at the finish line for this term and it certainly has been very busy.

The children have enjoyed designing and creating their costumes for their Endangered Animals Drama. It was enjoyable observing them working collaboratively and entertaining to watch their drama presentations. It’s so rewarding watching their confidence levels soar.

Last Monday we had a browse at the Book Fair. They were very experienced shoppers and it was a fast and furious experience. This week we attended our Sports Days held on Tuesday 22 June for students born in 2013 and on Wednesday 23 June for students born in 2012.

Just a reminder, please name all hats, jumpers etc as lost property is beginning to mount.

Shelly and I would like to wish you all a restful and enjoyable break. Let's hope we are lucky enough to score some sunny, slightly warmer weather. For those of you travelling away, take care and stay safe. See you all next term.

Mark West Cup

On Wednesday, 17 players from Maleny State School Year 5 & 6 travelled to Beerwah to compete in the Mark West Cup rugby league competition. In the pool rounds, the team performed exceptional well defeating St Michaels, Baringa and the Renegades. This put the Maleny side through to the Grand Final against Baringa.

In a tight tussle, Baringa got off to a great start scoring first. Maleny fought back to even the score, before Baringa once again took the lead. The score sea sawed again with Maleny evening the scores up, before Baringa once again took the lead. In the dying moments of the game Maleny once again powered over the line to even the score.

When the final hooter sounded, the teams were locked at three tries a piece. In the wash up of the final, Baringa were awarded winners of the day, as they scored first in the game.

It was a massive effort from the Maleny side to remain undefeated throughout the day. It was great to see the team and players improving as the day went on.
