Principal’s Report
2023 Yr 6 Camp
We have been offered the opportunity for our Yr 6 Camp in 2023 to be at Tallebudgera Beach Camp School. This is a very sought-after camp as it is an actual State School run by teachers and has some amazing experiences on offer for students. It is located behind Tallebudgera Beach next to Tallebudgera Creek and Burleigh Mountain. Rarely do opportunities occur for new schools to get a new booking, our Yr 6 teachers have applied for this camp since not going to Canberra and have not been successful. It will be a 4-night camp in Term 1 with an approximate cost $500.
Remembrance Day Assembly
This Friday we will hold a special Remembrance Day Service at 9:00am. All parents are welcome.
Country Fair Amazing Profits
The P&C have now completed reconciling the event and can report the following net profits:
2019 = $13,296.65 (largest in the 6 years the event had been run for just Maleny State School)
2022 = $37,093.58 (Maleny State School: $32,122.20, Conondale State School: $2,676.69, The River School: $2,294.69)
The 2022 figure would have been higher if we didn’t suffer ‘wastage’ of items/foods/etc that had been purchased for 2021 but had either been spoiled in storage or passed their best before dates.
There are explanations behind a few stalls that appear to have made a lesser profit due to carry over expenses from 2021.
Parent feedback on any elements of the Country Fair is encouraged and welcomed by our P&C.
2023 Country Fair will be in Week 9 Term 1
This date has been chosen as there were limited dates (March/April) with the new rides provider and it avoids the Maleny Show, Maleny Spring Fair, reporting Terms and a busy Term 4. The new rides provider will be supplying a larger range of rides including Dodgems.
The P&C have commenced planning for 2023 and have managed to secure a major operator from Brisbane, Jubilee Entertainment, for rides and attractions (and KC’s Fireworks) for Friday 24 March 2023 from 3.30 to 8.30pm with the following attractions: · Round Up · Storm · Super Slide · Jungle Jive Big Bouncer · Cup & Saucer · Dodgems · Laughing Clowns · Fairy Floss machine · Lucky Ducks
Intra House Spelling Competition
All students were extremely engaged and thoroughly enjoyed their session in every age group. Students will receive their team medals on assembly (Wednesday 2:20pm) this week and the overall Spelling House Champion will be announced.
A big thank you to Brent Heiniger (Literacy/Numeracy Coach) for co-ordinating this event and all staff that helped to differentiate for students and assisted on the day making things run like clockwork.
Day for Daniel
On Friday 28 October students wore red and participated in Australia’s biggest child safety message. Safety messages were delivered to all students at a whole school assembly in addition to a walk around the oval to highlight the importance of knowing and enacting safety responses of Recognise, React, Report. This event was well-supported with students raising $348 which has been donated to the Daniel Morecombe Foundation. A big thank you to the Student Council and staff for organisation of this event.
Semester Two Reports 2022
School reports will be emailed to parents in the last week of school.
Leaving our school or have a 2023 Prep student enrolling
Our staffing formula is based on student day 8 2023 enrolment numbers and as such it is crucial that all 2023 students including Prep students enrol now to assist us with our class structure organisation. It is also crucial that if families are leaving next year they alert us now to ensure our prediction of our class structure is accurate.
Welcome to Prep and Transition Days
Don’t miss our last 2 Prep Transition Days on Wednesday 9 and 16 of November from 9:00 to 10:00am. Parents can order uniforms for students on these days. Parents must attend these sessions with their children.
P&C Meeting
Our next meeting will be this Wednesday at 2:50pm in the Innovation Centre, we hope that you can attend.
Have a great week. John
From the Deputy Principal
2023 School Captain Process:
Students who reached the Interview stage of the leadership process, have now been shortlisted. These students will now prepare a 5 minute speech outlining their reasons why they would make a good school captain. These speeches will be presented to staff at the Week 6 staff meeting and also presented to the Yr 4 & 5 cohorts on Tuesday 8 November at 11:40am in the Hall. These votes will be combined with student passport details, written application and interview responses and results will be announced on Monday 14 November.
House/Sustainability and Music Captains will present their speeches on Thursday 17 November to the Yr 4 & 5 cohorts. Results of these votes again will be combined with student passport details and written applications to determine which students are elected to these positions. Winners will be announced on 18 November.
Student Council representatives are elected at the start of 2023.
Remembrance Day Ceremony:
Friday 11 November is Remembrance Day, Maleny State School’s Remembrance Day ceremony will be held in the hall from 9:00-9:30am. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Swimming date changes:
Mr Turner included in his original parent permission note regarding Term 4 swimming, that in Week 8 there would be a change to the timetable (just for this week only).
Monday 21 November will not be a swimming day, it will be moved to Wednesday 23 November of that week instead. Details of the swimming times on that day are included below:

PBL (Positive Behaviour Learning)
The Rocket is back!
Yes, that’s right, the rocket is back! During Weeks 5 – 8 of this term, we have a new SMART goal “Make Good Choices” which is a Be Responsible rule. Each class has balls ready to fill up the rocket. When students are Making Good Choices, they can add a ball to their class bucket. On Assembly each fortnight we will try to fill the rocket up again. Once full, the whole school will enjoy 20 minutes extra play time.
Making Good Choices
This rule covers so many all in one. It means:
- I try my best
- I am honest
- I am responsible for my behaviour
- I follow the 4Be’s
- I am a positive role model
- I take responsibility for solving my problems

Prep A & Prep B
Welcome to our 2023 Prep Families
This term we have enjoyed meeting and welcoming our 2023 Prep children and their families. Mrs Desley and Mrs Mandy have done an awesome job greeting people and taking their photos on interview days.
We had a good turnout at our recent Information Session and hopefully answered some questions about Prep.
Our first Transition Day on Wednesday 2 November was a huge success. Our future Preppies and their families received Welcome Bags with new school hats and spent time exploring the Prep garden and classroom. Some of our current Prep students were buddies for the morning. They went out of their way to welcome people and show them around. After a morning of fun, we gathered together and enjoyed a story and song with Mrs J. Mr Byrne finished the session with a tour of our amazing school.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again at our next two Transition Days on 9 and 16 November.

Year 2A
Wonderful Workers
2A are heading to the finish line for the term. We have begun our planning for our last English assessment, having to choose between a rocket and hot air balloon to move a house is a hard choice to make! We are so pleased and proud of the effort all students have made with their writing and choosing a goal to work towards. We had a great time at the spelling competition and everyone showed team spirit and had a go in all activities. Drama presentations are coming up soon and more information about what students need will be given soon. Swimming has begun, please make sure permission has been given either online or on the form that was sent home, also payment would be greatly appreciated. Any parents who would like to help spot during our swim time are most welcome. Assessment in all subjects are well on their way so if students are away please let the office know.
Here’s to a great few weeks together, it has been a pleasure teaching all students in our 2A class this year and we look forward to celebrating at the end!

Year 2/3C
Amazing Year
Week 6 of Term 4 ...Wow where has this year gone? We have been highly entertained by humorous poetry over the past 2 weeks. From horses with headlice to toilets eating everything, we have had a lot of laughs. Our maths focus will be on fractions and probability for the next two weeks and this will complete our final piece of maths assessment. Keep in mind we still have a jam packed last few weeks of school so make every day count, attendance is vital to ensure accurate reporting data is gathered.
The spelling bee was a tremendous success, students had a fantastic day participating in spelling activities with their peers. Thanks for a great first week of swimming lessons, students really enjoyed their opportunity to swim please. Do not forget goggles next week if your child requires them.
I feel extremely fortunate to have been your child’s teacher this year, the pleasure has been mine. Thanks again for a wonderful year!

Chappy News
Help please
It is hard for some of us to ask for help sometimes, whether we be young or not so young. This time I am asking for help. Our breakfast club needs volunteers in order to continue to run every Wednesday at school. Breakfast club gives our students an opportunity to access a nutritious breakfast to give their brains and bodies a kick start for the day. It also gives our students an opportunity to practice their social skills and manners. Research has shown that not all school students have the time, access and ability to breakfast properly. We want to continue to provide this service, however we need help to do so.
We are asking for one hour of your time once a fortnight on a Wednesday between 8 and 9am. It is working alongside myself and another volunteer to serve breakfast and help clean up. Breakfast and tea and/coffee provided. If you can start immediately or even next year can you email me on cboug13@eq.edu.au or ring me at the school please.
