Maleny Community Country Fair only 6 Weeks Away
This year’s Community Country Fair will include Conondale SS and the River School for the first time and will commence at 3:30pm on Friday, 9 September. After having to cancel our 2021 Fair, all Rides Wristbands and Stall Tickets that were pre-purchased last year will be honoured in full. These will be distributed to classrooms prior to the event. Please help to spread the word to encourage all of your friends and networks to attend. See our P&C section on how to pre-purchase rides and stall tickets to save yourself some money.
Class teachers are looking for parent helpers to do a shift on their stall. Please contact them to indicate when you can assist.
This year the P&C have decided to purchase most of the stall items and ingredients rather than seek donations. This will enable more effective stall organisation and planning for staff.
Donations that will still be required include:
Plant Stall – Outdoor and
indoor plants
Book Stall – New/second-hand books
District Sports
Last Thursday I took the opportunity to attend the Glasshouse District Sports at Beerwah State High School. I have never been more impressed than I was with our team of 45 students that represented our school against 16 other schools in our district. The behaviour, effort and pride in representing our school was very impressive. Overall, our school placed third with a number of our students making the district team. These students will now compete at the Sunshine Coast Regional Carnival. Well done to all students that participated, I could not be prouder of you all.
Maleny State High School Open Day - Year 7 students 2023
The Maleny State High School Open Day will be held on Monday, 15 August from 8:45am – 10:45am. This day is specifically for parents as students will have a 2-day transition program later in the year.
A parent information session on what MSHS has to offer and how to enrol will be held at Maleny State School on Tuesday, 23 August in our Hall from 2:30pm – 3:30pm. The information session will be hosted by MSHS Principal Deb Stewart. This information session is always well attended and a must do for parents.
Next P&C Meeting Wednesday 10 August – We need You!
New parents are welcome and encouraged to attend our next general meeting Wednesday 10 August at 8:50 am. This meeting will be held in the Innovation Centre where parents can attend face to face or can tune in from their own home using Teams online.
Our P&C is achieving some wonderful outcomes and welcomes all new comers to ensure that our P&C is truly representative of our whole school parent body. With our new OSHC up and running by this meeting our focus will be on organising our Country Fair on the 9 September.
Have a Magic Week in Maleny.

Year 5 Leadership Passports
Year 5 were officially introduced to the first phase of their leadership journeys last week: their ‘Leadership Passport’. Students in year 5 who wish to nominate for leadership positions in 2023 require this as part of their nomination process. The students know that at Maleny State School we are looking for leaders who represent the school across a variety of activities. To be eligible to nominate for leadership positions in Year 6, students must; follow the 4Bs, wear their uniform correctly and attend school regularly and use their Passport to show as many examples of the responsibilities and commitments that they engage in as a responsible student at Maleny State School.
The process for the election of School Captain roles next term, will include completing a nomination form and 1 typed page detailing how they plan to fulfil their role as a school leader and how they meet the criteria, with Passport included. Students who are shortlisted will then take part in an interview process, students shortlisted after this process will be required to present speeches for both the staff at a staff meeting, and the year 4/5 student bodies.
The qualities that we value in our school leaders at Maleny State School are:
- Shows an interest in and participates in school activities.
- Is helpful to fellow students and teachers.
- Has or can develop leadership qualities.
- Demonstrates good behaviour.
- Is reliable and trustworthy.
- Can communicate effectively amongst all year levels.
We wish all our year 5 students the best of luck in their leadership journeys.

Be a Learner – Bounce Back!
During Week 3 and 4 we introduce a new Be a Learner Buzz Phrase “Bounce Back”. This focus helps our students to be resilient.
It means we think about:
- I can identify and manage my emotions
- I am a problem solver
- I can use my support network to bounce back
- I can recognise feelings in myself and others
- I can label and track the physical signs of emotions in myself
- I can use a range of self-management strategies to act in an appropriate way
I can also learn:
- How to be resilient
- To label emotions and sensations in my body attached to emotion
- To use a calm box or calm area in my classroom
- To use breathing and calming strategies

Weather watch
We have been using our senses to explore and observe the weather in our local environment and learn that we can record our observations using symbols. We have observed that the weather changes and we are learning to identify the features that reflect a change in the weather. Please feel free to look at weather reports on your phone, iPad, TV or newspaper together and help to familiarise your child with weather symbols and talk about what they mean.
We took advantage of one windy Wednesday and made some kites to fly on the junior oval. We could see which way the wind was blowing as the kite tails blew in the wind. Flying them was so much fun.

Year 2A
Term 3 is full steam ahead
We have had a great start to the term. Students have been having some fun creating their interesting yet slightly disgusting recipes for George’s Grandma in their Unit 4 English Unit. We are looking forward to sharing them with the class.
We have begun lessons in the Computer lab to help us to navigate through different projects we may need to complete over the coming months. In Science we are investigating our class pets (Mealworms) they seem to be very hungry and very wiggly at this stage! We will also complete a growing seed experiment this term for our unit work.
We farewelled Ms Chamberlain on Friday and we will all miss her greatly. I certainly have been extremely lucky to have Hayley working alongside myself for the last 3 years, thank you for all that you have done for our classes Hayley, we wish you all the best. We look forward to welcoming Ms Tammalee Johnston to our class.
Sarsha Anthony, Hayley Chamberlain (2A)
Year 2/3C
Wow Week 4 already! We have been busy writing exciting beginnings to our stories as well as understanding the characters of focus in our text Cat in the Hat. Look out for the cats with hats leaving school this week. We are also learning to write in past tense as well as exploring our looking, saying, thinking, and doing verbs in our writing.
We really enjoyed U8’s day and loved all the activities. It was a wonderful day for all to enjoy. All 2/3C students were invited to join in the activities on the day. Just a reminder to please label all hats and jumpers as we find a number of these items lying around unnamed every day!

Year 3A & 3B
Welcome from 3A and 3B
We are busily immersed in our tasks for term 3 and starting to complete some assessments. Where has the year gone? The Country Fair is approaching at rapid speed and we need to be prepared for it’s arrival on Friday, 9 September. 3A and 3B are working together on our project “Christmas in September”. We would welcome any donations of squishy fidget things to fill our stockings. Hopefully we will have beautiful warm weather so that Ms Chandler and I can wear our Christmas dress up clothes. Sending a reminder about school stationary supplies for students if they are needing pencils etc. We still have 17 school weeks to go and many students are running low on these items. Please have a conversation with your child to find out what they need. We’ve also noticed that items of clothing are not named and we are having problems with children trying to locate missing hats and jumpers.

Chappy News
Feeling welcome
I wanted to write a quick note to say thank you to Maleny State School students, staff and family members for making me feel so welcome as your new Chappy. Working alongside teachers in the classroom I have been impressed at how students are displaying great attentiveness and willingness to learn. When out and about on the playground I have been amazed at how students are treating each other with respect and inclusivity.
Breakfast club began on Wednesday, 27 July with a decent number of students attending. We enjoyed cereal, yoghurt, toast, fruit and hot milo. It was wonderful to have volunteers just turn up and offer their help to the program. Additionally, it was so amazing to see the number of groceries donated. Thank you for those who responded this way. If you would like to volunteer your time to support breakfast club you can email me on cboug13@eq.edu.au . You will need just need to complete a Volunteer Pack from the office. Breakfast club will be on each Wednesday from 8.15am.
Lunch club has also started this week. First break students are able to come to the hall and play games with Chappy Chris. Wednesdays Years 1 and 2 are invited along, Thursday Years 3 and 4 are welcome to attend and Friday it’s Years 5 and 6’s turn. This seems to be a good opportunity to have some movement and fun.
Chappy’s thought of the day:
“Be the reason someone feels welcome, seen, heard, valued, loved and supported”.
Thank you.
