Outstanding School Review

Staff are currently using this year’s School Review (School Review Executive Summary and Info Graphic presented at last P&C Meeting can be found on our Web Site below and a number of other data sets to commence formulating our strategic direction for the next 4 years. I have attached our school review info graphic below. Overall, our school received an outstanding review and our recent school NAPLAN results are certainly cause for celebration, reflecting the success of our staff to implement our explicit improvement agenda in English. We are extremely grateful to the P&C for continued resourcing support, in particular in the areas of teacher aide and literacy funding. We congratulate all of our students on both their efforts and achievements and our highly skilled staff on their commitment and implementation of the Australian Curriculum.

Remembrance Day Assembly

This Thursday we will hold a special assembly to commemorate Remembrance Day at 9:00am. All parents are welcome.

Day for Daniel

On Friday the 29 October students wore red and participated in a walk around the oval to highlight the importance of knowing and enacting safety responses of Recognise, React, Report. This event was well supported with students raising $315 which has been given to the Daniel Morcombe Fund. A big thank you to The Student Council and staff for the organisation of this event.

Semester Two Reports 2021

School reports will be emailed to parents in the last week of School.

Lions Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to all students that participated in the Lions Public Speaking Competition recently called “Convince Us”. Students competed not only against their peers at our school but were also judged against students from Conondale SS as well. Students gave prepared speeches as well as impromptu responses. Emeline H from Year 6 was judged as best overall speaker from both schools with Imogen I, the best year 3/4 prepared response and Isabella M the best impromptu response. A big thank you to the Maleny Lions Club for organising and judging this competition and to our Literacy Coach, Brent Heiniger, for his coordination of this event.

P&C - Lunch Time Meeting

Our next P&C meeting for the term will be held this Wednesday 10th November at 12:30pm. Face to Face in the Meeting Room or face to face via Skype. Please click on the link emailed to you to join our Skype meeting. With our Country Fair only two weeks after, this is an important meeting. The more parents we can have attend the better. We welcome and encourage new parents and citizens to attend our meetings.

Leaving our school or have a 2022 Prep student enrolling

Our staffing formula is based on student day 8 2022 enrolment numbers and as such it is crucial that 2022 Prep students enrol now to assist us with our class structure organisation. It is also crucial that if families are leaving next year they alert us now.

Register for Prep now! Don’t wait.

It is essential that parents who have not contacted the office to register their child for Prep in 2022 do so now. Please do not assume we know you are coming. Registration can be completed in a one-minute phone call (Ph54998333) or an email to admin@malenyss.eq.edu.au.

Note: all students will require a birth certificate before commencing Prep in 2022. I look forward to meeting with you soon. If you know a family in the area that has a Prep eligible student for 2022 please encourage them to contact us immediately.

Welcome to Prep and Transition Days

Students need to be enrolled to attend our transition days. We held our first transition day last Wednesday and have two more coming up on Wednesday the 10th and 17th November from 9:00am to 10:00am. Parents can order uniforms for students on these days. Parents must attend these sessions unless children are coming with Good Start Centre staff.

Keeping our Children Safe

Please beware when driving past our school of the transport rules around buses. As more than half of our students travel by bus it is crucial we are all aware of the rules around giving way to buses. The transport department have supplied the below graphics to assist in our safety communication.

Have a Magic week in Maleny.

Prep A & Prep B

Transitions

On Wednesday we welcomed our new 2022 Prep Families with our first Transition to Prep Day. On arrival they received their welcome to Prep bags and then explored a Prep classroom and the outdoor area. Some of the current Preps took on the responsibility of being Buddy Helpers. There were many smiles as we said goodbye at the end of the session and we look forward to seeing everyone again at our next open days.

We are also starting to prepare our Preps for their transition to Yr 1. We are familiarising them with the bathrooms, playground and eating areas and they will get to visit the Yr 1 classrooms when classes are finalised at the end of term.

Country Fair

Our Country Fair isn’t far away. We are looking forward to our Snow Cone stall. Hope to see many of you there.

Science – Making a Musical Instrument

Students have been learning about light and sound this term, which is scaffolding them towards making their own musical instrument, which they will then modify to ensure that it makes a different sound. Parents, we would love your assistance by collecting recyclable materials that students can use to make their own instrument in the coming weeks. Each student should already have a little bit of an idea as to what they want their instrument to look like and what they may want to start collecting.

Jo Dykes (1A) and Jenny Jenkinson (1B)

Year 2A & 2B

Step into History Incursion

Year 2 had a great morning stepping back in time. Students were involved in a range of activities that allowed them to explore items used in the past.

We are busy with mathematical concepts such as 2D/3D shapes, Slide-Flip-Turning shapes and chance and data. We are well on our way to creating our new narrative for ‘Spirit of Hope’ and look forward to reading some wonderful pieces of creative writing. Swimming has commenced every Tuesday and we welcome volunteers. We are certainly looking forward to that as the weather heats up. We also sent home information for parents about our Country Fair stalls and how you can assist by providing a number of items for our own stall or other class stalls. A busy term ahead :-)

Sarsha Anthony, Hayley Chamberlain (2A) & Libby Ferguson (2B)

Year 3A & 3B

Hello from 3A & 3B

The end of the year is fast approaching and we are super busy completing our final assessments. It is extremely important that students attend each day as time is limited and it is vital that assessments be completed in the next week or so.

Donations are needed for our Christmas stalls. This is a big “shout out” for donations for 3A’s Bottle Stall requiring anything that can be placed into a jar or bottle. Don’t forget vouchers are great! We also require empty plastic jars and bottles. 3A also require lots of help from Parents/Carers to help out with preparing the bottles (sticking tickets on jars etc). If you can spare an hour or two in the week beginning 15 November please let me know.

3B also require more fidget toys for Christmas stockings.

Looking forward to making our stalls "a stand out” with your continued support.

With kind regards and a big thank you

Kathryn Brown (3A) & Shelly Chandler (3B)
