Volunteer’s Week
I would like to publicly thank all of the volunteers that help out each week within our school and at fundraising events. Each year we have over 180 people that volunteer. Some do so on a weekly basis while others may just help out once a year. We are extremely grateful to everyone who is able to support our students and school in any capacity. A special thank you to our P&C Executive who work tirelessly behind the scenes and to all P&C members who often do more than their share of heavy lifting when it comes to our fundraising activities.
Bunnings and Election Sausage Sizzle
Congratulations to our P&C for coordinating and manning both of these events on consecutive days two weekends ago. Awesome Effort. A big thank you to all parents and staff that volunteered your time on Saturday and Sunday.

If you would like to help out at this year’s Country Fair or have some new ideas please come along as we are always looking for and welcoming new faces.
Are you visiting our Facebook Page?
The data screen shot below show that the school's Facebook page is getting more and more interest and engagement. We have now passed 200+ followers of the page and are seeing higher engagement with various postings. We are a school with approximately 400 students, a follower count of 200+ means we are reaching a large portion of our families. Thank you for your support and following as this enhances our communication between the school, parents and community. Please visit our sight regularly and encourage others to do the same.
Attendance – Every Day Counts especially Friday
While our attendance data has been overall pleasing this year so far, Friday is consistently our lowest attendance day. Friday is just as an important a day as any other in the week where new concepts are taught and consolidated. It is business as usual in classrooms. Teachers require five days a week to teach all the content contained within the Australian Curriculum.
Classes that have the highest Friday attendance go into a draw each week at Assembly. The winning class gains the privilege of sitting on the seats at the front of assembly. The class with the most 100% day’s attendance have the honour of hosting the Attendance Trophy for the week.
Purchase your new School Jumper and School Hat
Our Uniform Shop is stocked up with new polar fleece jackets. No doubt with cool weather coming these jackets will sell quickly.
A reminder that all students require a school hat every day at lunch time and for outside lessons. Please check your child has a named hat and it is in their bag each day.
Have a Great Week.

Writing Apps continued!
The last couple of Familygrams I have highlighted some great Apps that can be used with children for the many different aspects of writing. I continue this with 5 more Apps today. As you can see from the many different Apps and what they can be used for, writing is a very complex process that needs to be explicitly taught and both reading and writing link together. The more we read, the better our writing will become.

PBL (Positive Behaviour Learning)
Our school’s current 4Be Focus Rule is:
Our School Buzz Phrase for Weeks 5 and 6 is “Look Proud, Talk Proud”. This means that students wear the ‘Maleny State School’ uniform proudly at all times – when they are at school and in the community. They will also learn about the importance of wearing a school uniform – for safety, sense of belonging, making everyone equal and giving identity to the school as a community.
Students are encouraged to be respectful and think about whether their classmates, teachers, family and friends would be proud of their behaviour. Other discussion points will be learning about what it means to be humble, show humility and being able to celebrate successes and deal with disappointment.
We want everyone to feel proud that they belong to such a great school!
PBL Team
Prep A & Prep B
The students are each taking turns to take home the class “Memory Box”. With great pride they share objects that help them remember three special events they celebrated with their family. Have a look at some of our memory collages.

This week, as part of our science learning, the students each made a garden/wind ornament. Students selected materials to make a wind/garden ornament suited to hanging outside. They will observe and discuss the suitability of the materials they chose and share and reflect on their observations.
We have also been practising ball games and relays preparing ourselves for the Junior Sports day.

A Living Adventure!
The chickens have hatched! In learning about life and living things in Science, Year One have had the opportunity to hatch chickens and experience cuteness overload for the past two weeks. All students have decided that our chickens need: food, water, sunlight, air and shelter to survive. Some lucky chickens will be headed to their forever homes with students this Friday!

Year 2A & 2B
Week 6 already! We are half way through the term and things are not slowing down!
For the moment the rain seems to be easing off, the sun is due to be shining all week, and the Junior Sports day has been rescheduled for Wednesday the 29th May. This will be an exciting day for students to participate in athletic events and support their House Teams. So, come along in your House sports shirts ready to have fun!
In the classroom, students have been exploring the science of forces and friction through push and pull motions. Their set task was to put some innovative thinking into action and create their own push / pull toy. Some incredibly creative designs have been constructed at home and brought to school ready for testing and assessment purposes for science and technology.
Some students are yet to construct their creations, but we look forward to seeing them next week.
Just a reminder, for parents and carers, that assessment is beginning and will be carried out over the next few weeks. Attendance and arriving to school on time is extremely important during this process.
Don’t forget library books are due back on Fridays, this ensures your child can borrow during the next library visit.
However, in stating that, also remember that this Friday is the Maleny Show Day holiday! There will be students’ drawings on display of ‘Farming in the Future’.

Year 2/3C
The term is flying by and it is all steam ahead for in 2/3C! It is a busy term all round with NAPLAN, Sports Days, Under 8’s Day, Writers Week and Knitfest. Year 3 students have had a fabulous time creating and constructing their ‘Pinball Machines.’ Great care had to be taken with the placement of obstacles, the manoeuvring of the ball and of course the ‘FUN FACTOR’ for the player. Students have carefully planned, taking into account the forces that would be required including several tests, redesigns and changes for many components of their ‘Pinball Machine’ to ensure their ball will move around to create a successful experience. Here are some of our student’s designs below.

Year 2 students have been inspired and enthused by the Year 3’s design experience and are eagerly anticipating their turn in the design and upcoming construction of their ‘Farm Technology’ which will commence shortly!

Year 3A & 3B
It’s hard to believe we are already half way through a very hectic term 2! In the last few weeks the children have been working industriously on various assessment tasks, we have completed the NAPLAN testing and had Senior Sports Day, with the Junior Sport’s Day postponed. We are working towards our Knitfest piece on Indigenous Australia. We have been very pleased with the creativity shown in Design Technology where the children designed, made, and then evaluated their desk caddies. We commemorated ANZAC day in a very moving school ceremony, thanks to Paula Heiniger, and then we started our HASS assessment based predominantly on ANZAC Day. We are looking forward to Writers Week next week to continue to inspire budding authors. How fortunate we are to have such a rich and varied curriculum for children to experience today.

Earn and Learn Stickers.
So far we have collected over 18,000 stickers and that number is still rising. We are well on our way to reaching our target of 50,000 stickers.
With only 4 weeks to go, please keep on bringing your stickers / completed sheets into school or you can put them in the box at Woolies!
Remember, the more stickers we collect, the more equipment we can earn for school.
Thank you for your support.

A Window or a Mirror?
I’ve been thinking about 2 choices we can make every day that ultimately affects the way we feel emotionally and then in turn affects the flow of our day. I’ve been asking myself this question…Am I a person who looks in a mirror or looks out a window?
When we feel consumed in a problem or drama in our personal lives it is human nature to stew on it, obsess over it and allow it to consume our thinking. This is what I mean when I mention “looking in a mirror”. For myself, there is never anything positive that comes of this decision. In fact, all it seems to do is rob me of any joy or happiness or most importantly any opportunity to help someone else.
The other choice we can make is to “look out the window”. As you can guess this means to actively keep your eyes off your own problems and see opportunities where you can be helpful or supportive of somebody else. I find that most times I make this decision, my worries and fears disappear and I am left feeling fulfilled and purposeful. This is not to say that I don’t think it’s right or appropriate to look in the mirror from time to time, but I am saying that choosing to continue focusing on the mirror is never helpful, especially when it is a situation or event that is outside of your ability to control or change.
