Check Us Out on Facebook
We are very excited that our school now has a Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/MalenyStateSchool/
Please spread the word as we are hoping this will provide parents with a more effective means of communication and ultimately increase parent participation with in our school while promoting what our school does to our wider community.
The reality is that like all schools we are struggling to engage parents as volunteers within all areas of our school. We are always looking for parents to, join our P&C, assist in the tuckshop, work as mentors or assist within classrooms. The small group of committed parents that do attend our P&C meetings are wonderful and it is amazing what they achieve for such a small team. It would be great to gain new ideas and to share the work load by increasing our parent presence in the P&C. Each year we farewell some of our amazing volunteers as their children move to High School so it is important that we are constantly recruiting new parent volunteers, it is hoped Facebook may assist us with this challenge.
Facebook will also help us to communicate and promote all the wonderful things that we do and students achieve at school that often go unnoticed.
Often there are things that parents would love communicated that we are unaware of. Now that we have this form of social media available please ensure you pass on your ideas of things you would like to see us communicate more.
Country Fair – RE/MAX Fireworks - Col Finley Band -------- only 4 Sleeps
Please ensure you attend our P&C’s biggest fundraiser of the year this Friday and bring your neighbours, relations and friends. Commencing at 3:30pm Friday, Remax Fireworks at 7:30pm, close at 8:00pm.
Our P&C and staff have been working hard to ensure this will be a profitable and successful event.
Classes may require parent assistance on stalls and parents able to assist set up commencing at 9:00am and then again at 1:30pm to assist class stall set up.

Congratulations Lou Walsh and Year 3 Waste Warriors
Maleny State School has been chosen by the Sunshine Coast Council as the WINNER of the 2018 Schools War on Waste Film Competition in the primary school category. The Maleny State School Waste Warriors have shown great innovation with their War on Waste. The processes involved in the collection and processing of the four waste streams, along with signage on bins that encourages both recycling and reusing are fantastic strategies rolled out by the Waste Warriors. For our amazing efforts, the Maleny State School has won a Replas Buddy bench.
Well done Lou for creating this wonderful opportunity for our students to be involved in. It is an area that our community is passionate about and one that we would like to see continue at Maleny State School.
Inter-house Maths Challenge
Congratulations to Kuluin our 2018 Maths House Champions. Last Thursday our whole school from Prep to Year Six participated in a number of individual and group fun maths challenges as part of our Inter-house Maths Competition. Student participation and efforts throughout the day are to be applauded. A huge thank you to Mrs Lees for coordinating this event and to all the staff that assisted in making the day a success. Children were excited to see Mr Flamank return to school whilst on long service leave to compare this event. You are a champion Mr F and we are most grateful for your assistance and the positive promotion of maths with our students.

SWPBL (School Wide Positive Behaviour Learning)
Our Buzz Phrase for the last two weeks of school is a Be Responsible Rule - “Make Good Choices”. This rule should help students stay focussed as we finish the school year and start to think about new classes and holidays. Students are expected to continue to follow the four be rules, try their best and be positive role models.
Many students will be rewarded for making good choices on our School Rewards Day – Thursday 6 December.
Be Epic Students (students who have collected 30 stamps for positive behaviour) will have the opportunity to participate in a movie morning.
Be Awesome Club members (students who have collected 20 stamps for positive behaviour) will participate in games during the middle session. Be Epic students will also receive this reward.
Be Super students (those who have collected 10 stamps for positive behaviour) will receive classroom rewards.
Enjoy your rewards!
Kuluin: Interhouse Maths Challenge Champions for 2018
Kuluin won the title of Interhouse Maths Challenge Champion for 2018 after they survived a close contest from the other houses in our recent Interhouse Maths Challenge. All of our students from Prep to Year 6 were challenged with a variety of both individual and team questions that were set by their teachers. The day enabled our students to become engaged with Mathematics and at the same time they enjoyed the friendly rivalry of an Interhouse competition.

Year 5A & 5B
SCRATCH ASSESSMENT
Over the last term students have been working in groups to create a Scratch game to teach young players how to be prepared for a disaster or how to be healthy. Students enjoyed the coding experience and created some incredible maze games with special features. Some of these include user input to answer questions, moving enemy sprites like cyclones or doughnuts which would end the game as well as collectable sprites which would increase a player’s score. Some games were even made for single and multi-players. Here is an example of one.
Leadership Positions
Recently elections were held for the 2019 Leadership positions of School, House and Music Captains for the current Year 5 students wishing to nominate. The successful candidates will be informed very soon and then those students will be presented with their badges early next year. Congratulations to all students involved in this process, they all made their teachers very proud.
Year 5 students are also very excited to be going to camp at Mapleton in week 8 to work on teambuilding activities and to challenge themselves personally with various physical activities.

Spending Time
As each year passes in my children’s lives, I see more and more how important it is to spend time with them and invest into their lives. Often as parent’s we can forget that our greatest and most significant job on this earth it to be a good parent. This takes courage, time, patience, consistency and clarity of mind. I see the power in my words, as I speak out the strengths and gifts that my children have, to change the course of their lives. Sometimes we can be so focused on the problem/s, that we forget to acknowledge the good that is in our child. This week I encourage you to set aside time to sit and really listen to your child. Look into their faces and let them know that you are hearing them and want to hear them. Make family time the utmost priority – even if you may not feel like it.
