Funding for Maleny State School to support globally competent learners
We are excited to announce that Maleny State School has received project funding through the Queensland Department of Education’s Growing Global Competence Fund.
Maleny's ‘Empowering community: Share the learning to promote sustainable food security to improve health, wellbeing and livelihoods’ project is an exciting initiative that will enrich student learning through expanding our sustainable Garden Club to include two new Airgarden systems (aeroponic systems) to complement our traditional and wicking garden beds. The grant will assist us to create our first ever student Media Club, providing camera gear to allow students to connect to a global audience through podcasts, newsletter items and posters.
Through this program, students will explore global issues and learn to communicate with impact to support a sustainable world.
This project reflects our ongoing commitment to preparing young people for the opportunities and challenges of an interconnected world. We believe that growing global competence strengthens our whole school community.
We can’t wait to share stories, updates, and highlights from this exciting journey throughout the year. Stay tuned as our students put global competence into action!
Check out the Airgarden system below.

Reports Emailed
Semester 1 Reports will be emailed to parents/caregivers on Wednesday 25 June. We remind parents that OneSchool, which is the Department of Education’s Statewide Management System, is set up in a way that it will only email out to parents whose emails are recorded as the primary carers in the system. Usually these emails are provided at enrolment. If these email details have changed please contact the Office.
To receive your child’s report please add Application.ONESCHOOL@qed.qld.gov.au (mailto:Application.ONESCHOOL@qed.qld.gov.au) to your list of safe senders to ensure report card emails aren’t sent to the Junk folder. Please note, the school’s email address won’t show up as the sender.
If you have signed up for QParents, you will be able to access your child’s reports from the app immediately they become available.

PBL (Positive Behaviour Learning)

The PBL Rocket is full!
It was very exciting on assembly in week 8 when filling the new rocket. Congratulations to all of our students on this fantastic display of 'Keeping Your Cool’. Class teachers will be arranging a free 20 minute extra playtime with their classes before the end of term.
Current Be Rule - Be Safe
Buzz Phrase - I Choose to Defuse
Our final 4 Be focus of the term is a Be Safe rule with the buzz phrase “I Choose to Defuse”. This buzz phrase helps our students to remember that they are in control of how they respond to situations. Some simple ways this can be done are:
- I say STOP if someone or something is upsetting me.
- I WALK away from the situation to a safe place.
- I TALK to someone I can trust.
- I CONTROL myself and keep my COOL.
- I can solve problems in a calm manner.
Some helpful things to think about are:
- What is a peaceful resolution?
- Providing students with strategies to use when faced with a social/emotional problem. (Count backwards, breathing, have a drink, go for a walk.)
- What happens if I don’t keep my cool! What does it look like? Is it appropriate? How does it affect others?
- Discuss the STOP, THINK, DO process.
- Every ACTION has a REACTION and only individuals can control their own actions.
This buzz phrase goes hand in hand with our “High Five” and gives students consistent language and support to be active in their reactions and problem-solving skills.
Wishing all our school community a happy and safe winter holiday time. See you in Term 3!

Lost Property

Lost property is checked weekly and named items are returned to their owners. Items not collected by the end of the term will be washed and donated to local charities. Please ask your children to have a look, or yourself, in the alcove next to the Yr 4 eating area.
There are lots of jumpers in lost property at the moment due to the cool mornings and warm days.

- Snacks, drinks and frozen items can be purchased over the counter.
When ordering, please ensure that you see the GREEN THUMB screen and receive an order confirmation email. This notes that your order has been successfully submitted and will be sent to our service.
Several times each week, we still have upset children turning up at the final bell for 1st Break looking for their 'missing' orders. We need all of the preparation time from 8:30am to 11:00am (when the first bell for 1st Break rings) to have every order ready for collection. It is not possible to prepare fresh or cooked meals during 1st Break.
Please ensure there are sufficient credits in your child's account so that they can purchase items from our Counter Menu in the event that their online order was not successfully completed or that they have forgotten to bring their lunch to school. We don't want to see any child go hungry!
Our current menu is available on the P&C website.
Thank you for your support and any casual or recurrent volunteering will make a big difference to our committed Team!

Travelling light
School holidays are upon us again. Is this year flying extra fast or is it just me? So, I have officially been here three years now. Confession time, I still have some unpacked boxes from moving three years ago. However, the good thing is that I obviously don’t need the things that are packed in those boxes, I must have learned to live without them.
Makes me think about other things I can live without. Kitchen gadgets like spiralizers, melon ballers and piping bags I definitely can live without, however for me, my favourite coffee cups, pod machine and milk frother are essential. Ok, I can hear you say technically I could live without them right? Yep, but they are a little bit of self-care for me in my busy life. Your essentials may include your favourite pillow or blanket, your lounge chair and reading space, your Thermomix. Your children’s essentials may include a favourite Squish Mallow, superhero figurine, book or piece of technology. These items give us a sense of comfort and consistency when times are tough or lots of change is happening in our lives or the world around us. So, I think it is ok to hold on to these things whilst considering what we may be able to let go of or easily live without.
What do our children need for development? A roof over their heads, food on the table, love and kindness in the family and friendships. A place to feel safe and people to feel safe around. A space to learn and develop. Access to good healthcare. Let’s prioritise these needs within our families and hold the rest lightly. I need to remember this as much as the next person for sure, I think I have talked myself into another garage sale this weekend.
