Principal’s Report

Welcome Back
We have had a very smooth start to the Term with 8 new enrolments. There are a number of exciting events this term which also has 4 public holidays. Some of these events include: ANZAC Day Services, a School-Led Review, Cross Country, Under 8’s Day, Chappy Week, Mother’s Day, Maleny Show, Interschool Sport for Yrs 5&6, Bookfair and Athletics.
Maleny School-Led Review
All Queensland state schools undergo a review at least once every 4 years.
The majority of schools are designated one of 2 types of review – either a school review conducted by the department or a school-led review which is conducted by the school and then validated by the department.
Our school has been selected this year as one of only 37 schools in Queensland to conduct a School-led Review. This is an honour for our school and recognises the culture, expertise and high student outcomes our school achieves.
School-led reviews aim to harness the efforts of schools to use cycles of inquiry to review their performance and progress, and collaboratively identify next steps for improvement. This evidence-based approach empowers school leaders, in partnership with their community, to lead aspects of the review process.
A school-led review consists of 2 phases:
- evaluation conducted by the school
- validation conducted by School and Region Reviews (SRR).
We will conduct our evaluation stage over the next 6 weeks where we will seek school, parent and community feedback.
Feedback from parents and the community is an important part of school reviews, with everyone encouraged to have their say.
Our school review team consists of our leadership team and classroom teachers. We will be seeking parent input in a variety of ways including face to face conversations with parents – (school events, assemblies, before/after school), parent forums, P&C meetings, surveys.
Schools are not ranked or given a performance rating. They are provided with a comprehensive report detailing the key findings and recommended improvement strategies for consideration.
The school publishes the executive summary or full report on its website. Principals are encouraged to share this information with their staff and school community to help shape the school’s strategic direction.
Conversations with a review team member can be in person or over the phone. All feedback remains confidential. Reviewers endeavour to connect with parents and carers before or after school around the school grounds. To register your interest in participating in a review please contact your school office. Alternatively, you can register your interest via emailreviews@qed.qld.gov.au. For more information please visit the school reviews website at schoolreviews.education.qld.gov.au or phone (07) 3035 2217.
ANZAC Day March and Service
A huge thank you to all children, parents and staff that attended a very wet ANZAC march and service on Friday. Despite the conditions, over 60 sudents marched in the rain and stood in the mud respectfully watching the main Maleny service. Our school captains, Olivia and Xavier, gave a wonderful ANZAC address and then, along with Aria and George, layed donated books from Rotary on the main cenotaph. As a principal I could not have been prouder of our school and community. Fantastic effort everyone.
Our school service on Thursday morning was well attended by parents who listened to our school choir, school captain addresses and watched our class representatives lay a sprig of rosemary during the ceremony. An excellent service beautifully coordinated by our Deputy Principal, Paula Heiniger.

School Photo Day – Thursday 1 May
School photos will be held this week on Thursday. Please ensure children are dressed in the correct school uniform and arrive at school on time. Black school shoes, white socks and our school shirt (not sports shirts).
Cross Country - Friday 2 May
Our Cross Country will be held this Friday commencing at 9:00am, please see timetable below. Please note that if it is bad weather, times may be required to be adjusted on the day. We welcome and encourage all parents to attend. We encourage all students to bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Election Day P&C Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall - Saturday 3 May

Volunteers Required
The Maleny Polling Booth is at the Maleny State School Hall on Saturday 3 May, and the P&C is holding a Democracy Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall. We need volunteers to cook and serve on the day, as well as bakers to cook up a storm in support. If you are available for a shift at the school, please e-mail Merrick Milet3@eq.edu.au with your availability between 7:00am and 1:30pm on Saturday 3 May.
Baked goods must have a label listing all ingredients and be hygienically wrapped, bagged or boxed. Items for the cake stall can be delivered to the Uniform Shop on Friday morning, or directly to the stall beside the school hall on Saturday morning after 8:00am.

Mother’s Day Stall
Our Mother’s Day Stall will be held on Tuesday 6, Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 May from 8:15am to 8:45am. Kate Stassen will be organising this stall and would appreciate any parent help to serve and help setup and pack down the stall each day. Please let Kate (Year 3/4 teacher/mum) or the office know if you can assist.
Next P&C Meeting Wednesday 14 May – We Need You!
New parents are welcome and encouraged to attend our next general meeting on Wednesday 14 May at 6:00 pm. This meeting will be held in the Innovation Centre where parents can attend face to face or can tune in from their own home using Teams online access. We have changed the time to encourage more parents to attend. Parents will have the opportunity to have input into our school-led review. We would love to see many more faces come along to our meetings to ensure that our P&C is truly representative of our whole school parent body.
Have a Magic Week in Maleny.
John

PBL (Positive Behaviour Learning)

Be Rule: Be Respectful
Buzz Phrase: Manners Matter
It’s wonderful to be back and see everyone again.
We start this term off with a BE RESPECTFUL rule “Manners Matter”. This is an important rule for our whole school community. This includes when on the bus, in the office, at the tuckshop, when waiting to be picked up after school, in the playground and in the classroom. When we think about using manners we think about:
- Using “Please may I....”
- Saying “Thank you”
- Waiting (approx 1m away) until adults have finished talking before interrupting
- Letting adults walk in front or go first through doorways or on paths
- Pedestrian manners on footpath, keep to the left
- Thanking parent helpers and volunteers
- Saying good morning/afternoon to staff/adults and students in school grounds
- Waiting before entering a classroom when on a message
- Saying “Yes Mrs… or Mr...” not just yes
Thank you for reading our article!

Tuesday 6 May, Wednesday 7 May and Thursday 8 May from 8:15am to 8:45am under the Year 1 classrooms.

We would love to have volunteers to help run the stall from 8am. Please contact the office if you can join in the fun.
Mewar Café (Tuckshop)
Opening Hours
Mewar Café will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday:
- 8:30am to 12:00pm (first meal break only)
My School Connect
Orders can be made on the online ordering system My School Connect.
- Online orders close at 8:30am each morning.
- Snacks, drinks and frozen items can be purchased over the counter.
When ordering, please ensure that you see the GREEN THUMB screen and receive an order confirmation email. This notes that your order has been successfully submitted and will be sent to our service.
Several times each week, we still have upset children turning up at the final bell for 1st break looking for their 'missing' orders. We need all of the preparation time from 8:30am to 11:00am (when the first bell for 1st break rings) to have every order ready for collection. It is not possible to prepare fresh or cooked meals during 1st Break.
Please ensure there are sufficient credits in your child's account so that they can purchase items from our Counter Menu in the event that their online order was not successfully completed or that they have forgotten to bring their lunch to school. We don't want to see any child go hungry!
Our current menu is available on the P&C website.
Thank you for your support and any casual or recurrent volunteering will make a big difference to our committed Team!
Volunteers - If you can help please contact Mewar Café

Flashing School Zone Signs to be installed

Our School was nominated to receive these new signs as part of a Queensland Government commitment to improve school road safety.
You will notice that the new signs will look similar to standard school zone signs with the addition of a red flashing ring around the speed limit as well as two flashing yellow lights at the top of the sign. The installation of flashing light school zone signs is proven to improve visibility of school zones, serving as an active reminder for motorists to slow down.
So next time you’re dropping off or picking up your child, keep an eye out for the new signs and make sure you stick to the signed speed limit.
